What does a Certificate of Fitness (CoF) cover?
A CoF inspection checks that your heavy vehicle is safe and roadworthy and looks at things like the brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, lighting, glazing, and structural integrity. If anything needs fixing, we can usually sort it right here in the workshop.
Can I get repairs done on-site if my truck fails a CoF?
Yes. Because CoF inspections are carried out by our partner RTC inside HTSL’s workshops, any issues can usually be repaired on-site, saving you time and hassle. We’ll walk you through what needs to be done and get you road-ready as quickly as possible.
How often should I service my diesel truck?
That depends on the age of your truck, how often it's used, and the kind of loads it’s hauling. As a diesel specialist, we recommend regular diesel maintenance every 10,000–15,000km for most trucks. If you're not sure, we’re happy to advise based on your schedule and fleet.
What’s included in your service tiers?
Our A, B and C options are designed to provide varied levels of service depending on your needs.
Service A is a basic check-over and fluid top-up.
Service B includes a full oil and filter change, inspections, and adjustments.
Service C is a more detailed service, including drivetrain and brake inspections.
We can help recommend the best option based on your vehicle and usage.

Why is my truck hard to start in the morning?
Cold starts can be caused by battery issues, glow plugs, fuel system faults, or poor diesel compression. It’s a fairly common problem in diesel engines, especially if you’ve not been booking in for regular maintenance. See our diesel specialists and we’ll get to the bottom of it.
How do I know if my brakes need replacing?
There are a few signs your brakes need to be looked at by a professional. Squealing, vibration when braking or a soft brake pedal are some of the most common. Uneven stopping or increased stopping distance are also signs you should pay attention to. Our team can inspect your brake pads, drums or discs and let you know what needs replacing before it becomes a more significant problem.
What are the signs of a failing diesel engine?
If you’re experiencing excess smoke, loss of power, knocking noises, or poor fuel economy, those are red flags that something isn’t right. The longer you ignore the problem, the bigger it gets, so book in to see us if you notice any change in your vehicle’s performance.
How much does an engine rebuild cost?
It depends on the make, model, and extent of the damage. As diesel specialists, we’ll always provide a clear quote upfront and walk you through your options. If a rebuild isn’t the best call, we’ll let you know.
What does this fault code or symbol mean?
Fault codes come from your truck’s computer when something isn’t working right and could be anything from a faulty sensor to a major mechanical issue. We use advanced diagnostic equipment to read the codes, identify the fault, and make the necessary repairs.
How can I tell if my wheel bearings are worn or damaged?
Common signs of wheel bearing issues include rumbling or grinding noises from the wheels, vibrations, or uneven tyre wear. In serious cases, you might notice play in the wheel or heat around the hub. Our team can check and replace bearings as part of your regular diesel maintenance.
What are the warning signs of gearbox trouble?
Gear slipping, difficulty shifting, grinding noises, or leaking fluid are all signs that something’s up. Don’t ignore gearbox issues, they tend to get worse over time. We offer in-house gearbox servicing and rebuilds to get you sorted fast.
Do you offer mobile services or emergency breakdown services?
Yes, we do. Our mobile wheel alignment service can come to you, cutting down your time off the road. And if you break down, HTSL offers 24/7 emergency roadside support, so you’re never left stranded.
